“Noble life demands a noble architecture for noble uses of noble men. Lack of culture means what it has always meant: ignoble civilization and therefore imminent downfall.”

C.U.L.T.UR.E project (Cités Unesco Laboratoires de Territoires URbains Équilibrés) is a Transnational Cooperation project co-funded by the European Regional Development Fund involving eight partners from Italy, Spain and Greece.

It aims at questioning the role of "culture" in its broadest meaning, as a matrix of historic towns and as the engine of EU economic development.

The project started in May 2009 when Region Campania, the Province of Ferrara, the Municipality of Pisa, the Province of Cordoba, Region Murcia, the Municipality of Tarragona, the Municipalities of Corfu and Rhodes met in Naples to lay the basis for a transnational multilevel governance strategy aimed at preserving them and increasing their appeal and competitiveness thus giving back to historical and cultural heritage its leading role in European development.

This overall objective calls for an integrated approach among urban and cultural policies at different territorial levels, different public and private actors, different knowledge, cultures, approaches, financial instruments and EU regions, sharing the same problems, needs and goals.
